Advocacy
ACRM
plays an active role in advocating for rehabilitation professionals
and consumers.
ACRM's most recent efforts
include:
- Paralyzed
Veterans of America Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine
- Submission
of written testimony on research priorities to the National Institute
on Disability and Rehabilitation Research through ACRM's
Research Committee
- Membership
in the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities to advocate for favorable
provisions within the Medicare Choice program through ACRM's
Public Policy and Government Affairs Committee
- Involvement
in the development of the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation,
and the Functional Independence Measure, both widely used by clinicians
throughout the United States to document severity of patient disability
and outcomes of medical rehabilitation
- Member
representation on national review committees that developed guidelines
for spinal cord injury, cognitive rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation,
and mild traumatic brain injury
- Recommendation
for appointment of members to positions on grant review panels of
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute
on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, and the National Center
for Medical Rehabilitation Research
- Participation
with other collaborative rehabilitation organizations
