About Us

ACRM Focus Statement

The American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine serves people with disabling conditions by promoting rehabilitation research and facilitating information dissemination and the transfer of technology. We value rehabilitation research that promotes health, independence, productivity, and quality of life for people with disabling conditions. We are committed to research that is relevant to consumers, educates providers to deliver best practices, and supports advocacy efforts that ensure adequate public funding for our research endeavors.

Our Mission

The mission of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) is to enhance the lives of persons living with disabilities through a multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation, and to promote rehabilitation research and its application in clinical practice.

Our Leadership Role

To develop and implement our vision, ACRM will seek the involvement of rehabilitation professionals, including clinicians, senior level service managers, administrators, educators, and researchers. We will call upon the leaders in rehabilitation to identify current best practices and best providers at all levels of care. We will disseminate this information to the field at our regional and national meetings, through directed position papers, and in our journal, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Our new publication, Rehabilitation Outlook, will focus on current issues in clinical practice, public policy, and research.

And as the field of medical rehabilitation continues to evolve, we believe that it is important to keep the industry connected. ACRM will create opportunities for exchanging and sharing information with rehabilitation professionals, corporate providers, healthcare payers, and industry regulators.

Our Vision Goals

  • ACRM will take positions on public policy and legislative issues that advocate for individuals with disabilities and for providers of rehabilitation services.
  • ACRM will focus on the need for developing innovative and cost-effective transdisciplinary models of collaborative care and management of rehabilitation across all levels of the continuum.
  • ACRM will encourage research efforts that are designed to examine and identify clinical technology and treatment paradigms that offer the greatest clinical effectiveness.
  • ACRM will initiate dialogue with payers and regulators to communicate the collaborative care models that produce positive rehabilitation outcomes.

Our Vision Focus

ACRM will promote the development of multidisciplinary leadership and practice innovation for efficacious rehabilitation management of chronic disease and disability across the life span. In this effort, ACRM will serve as a forum for creating and discussing new treatment paradigms that define the composition of the rehabilitation team, the duration of care, and the venues required to achieve optimal functional outcomes for people with disabilities and chronic disease.
