American Academy of Neurology (AAN) The American Academy of Neurology is a medical specialty society established to advance the art and science of neurology, and thereby promote the best possible care for patients with neurological disorders.

American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) - The AAPM&R is the national medical society representing more than 6,100 physicians who are specialists in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation.

American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) The AANS is dedicated to advancing the specialty of neurological surgery in order to provide the highest quality of neurosurgical care to the public.

American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine - The primary goal of the AAEM is to serve physicians who diagnose and treat patients with disorders of muscle and nerve, extend the knowledge of electrodiagnostic medicine, and improve the quality of patient care.

American Association of Spinal Cord Injury Psychologists and Social Workers (AASCIPSW) - an organization of psychologists and social workers who provide for the emotional, behavioral and psychosocial care of persons affected by spinal cord impairment (SCI).

American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) - Founded in 1947, the ABPMR is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. The ABPMR is an independent, non-profit organization, receives no public funds and does not issue licenses.

The American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology (ABRP) - incorporated as the certifying board for competence in Rehabilitation Psychology in 1995. It has been a member board of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) since 1997. ABPP was established in 1948 and serves as the parent board for all specialties of professional psychology

American College of Sports Medicine - promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, healdh and quality of life.

The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is the premier professional organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all older adults. With an active membership of over 6,000 health care professionals, the AGS has a long history of effecting change in the provision of health care for older adults. In the last decade, the Society has become a pivotal force in shaping attitudes, policies and practices regarding health care for older people.

American Kinesiotherapy Association, Inc. (AKTA) promotes Kinesiotherapy by improving recognition of the profession through the pursuit of legislation and public relations.

The American Occupational Therapy Association Inc. (AOTA) - The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is the nationally recognized professional association for over 60,000 occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. These individuals work with people experiencing health problems such as stroke, spinal cord, injuries, cancer, congenital conditions, developmental problems, and mental illness, in a wide range of practice settings including hospitals, nursing facilities, home health agencies, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, psychiatric facilities and schools.

American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA)  - a national trade association committed to providing high quality, unprecedented business services and products to O&P professionals.

American Paraplegia Society (APS) - dedicated to improving the quality of medical care delivered to persons with spinal cord impairment (SCI). Spinal cord medicine is recognized as a discipline that encompasses many components of specialized care. In view of this diversity, one of the major functions of APS is to foster the interchange of ideas in clinical and basic science.

American Physical Therapy Association - the voice of the physical therapy profession. Representing more than 70,000 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy.

American Psychological Association (APA) - a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. With more than 150,000 members, APA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide.

American Psychological Society - The Society's mission is to promote, protect, and advance the interests of scientifically oriented psychology in research, application, teaching, and the improvement of human welfare.

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)- ASHA is the professional and scientific association for more than 96,000 speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists in the United States and internationally.

American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) - During the decade of the 1960s, physicians and other medical professionals engaged in the treatment of spinal cord injury sought to align themselves as a group, in an effort to exchange ideas and work together toward the establishment of a model for care delivery to this patient population. The early 1970s brought support for the concept of a model of care from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (under the then Department of Health, Education and Welfare) which created the "model spinal cord injury systems" program. Currently eighteen such models exist nationwide, supported by the Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. It was out of this group the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) was created in 1973.

Association of Academic Physiatrists - The objectives of the Association are to promote the advancement of teaching and research in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation within an academic environment. The organization acts as a sounding board and forum for the exchange of ideas and information relative to all phases of the art and science of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. It promotes the distribution of information to future young physicians who will be practicing this art and science for the benefit of the public health and welfare. The organization also becomes involved in the exchange of information from other areas of medicine, both in basic science and in clinical areas of teaching and research.

Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) - The mission of the AAMC is to improve the health of the public by enhancing the effectiveness of academic medicine.

Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) - We're the number one source for innovation, interaction, and information for nearly 9,000 nurses who focus on improving people's functional outcomes.  You'll fit right in with our growing, dynamic association.

Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) - Web site and the toll-free hotline (888-252-7751) provide injury prevention and safety information on numerous topics for the general public and injury prevention professionals. SafeUSA is a partnership of public and private organizations dedicated to increasing safety in the United States by preventing injuries.

Congress of Neurological Surgeons - The Congress exists for the purpose of promoting the public welfare through the advancement of neurosurgery, by a commitment to excellence in education, and by dedication to research and scientific knowledge.

Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) - The ICDR website gathers comments and recommendations on research needs for Americans with disabilitieis. The site was produced by NIDRR to help ensure that federal research efforts meet the needs of the disability community.

The International Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ISPRM) - The ISPRM works to assist P&RM specialists, doctors as well as other health care workers, to become more effective practitioners and to improve the quality of life of people with impairments and disabilities all over the world.

The Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation (KMRREC) - The mission of KMRREC is to conduct basic and applied research in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. KMRREC will disseminate its research findings worldwide for the purpose of enhancing the field to better serve the general public. KMRREC will design and conduct contemporary educational programs for professionals in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, especially physiatrists, residents, allied health professionals, and other post doctoral specialists.

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) - The United State Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS), through its National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), conducts comprehensive and coordinated programs of research and related activities to maximize the full inclusion, social integration, employment, and independent living of disabled individuals of all ages.

The Northeast Cognitive Research Network is supported by four formal "cores" to ensure the growth, utilization and ultimate success of the network. The core Directors and associates coordinate to ensure the network is properly funded, active, and able to advance the state of the art of cognitive rehabilitation through research, collaboration, and communication. Four Institutions participate in the core activities: Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation, Magee Rehabilitation, University of Pennsylvania, Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation.

NRH Center for Health and Disability Research (CHDR) has conducted public domain, peer-reviewed research funded by federal and private organizations since 1985.

Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) - Founded in 1954, the Institute has earned a worldwide reputation as being a leader in patient care, advocacy, research and educating health professionals on physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Institute offers expertise in treating a range of conditions, from the most complex conditions including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, stroke and traumatic brain injury, to the more common, such as arthritis, chronic pain and sports injuries. Specialized services at the Institute, including Assistive Technology, Prosthetics and Orthotics and Vocational Rehabilitation help individuals lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
