Benefits of Membership
A SPECIAL INVITATION FROM BRENDAN CONROY, MD
"The
activities of the ACRM have a strong emphasis on advancing the
scientific practice of rehabilitation, as you might expect from
the name. I have taken courses at the Annual Meeting of the
ACRM for the past several years that have presented absolutely
state of the art research-based work by lively and engaging
speakers, who happen to be leading researchers in the field.
I like the interdisciplinary membership of the ACRM, very similar
to the membership of the Rehabilitation Team, the functional
core of my work as a Physiatrist."
"There
is a welcoming collegiality and friendliness among the OTs,
PTs, SLPs, Psychologists, Nurses, Anthropologists, Social Workers,
Sociologists and physicians who participate in the ACRM committee
work and the Annual meeting. There is a great deal of interest
in the experience I have as a busy clinician as a springboard
for future research projects as well as a stress-relieving sympathy
for my inexperience as a researcher and grant-writer. They accept
that I may not know all the statistics and in's-and-out's of
getting a proposal accepted, while appreciating that I have
great experience and knowledge of how patients go through the
rehabilitation process. I have had just as many fascinating
and educational ACRM moments over a hamburger and a glass of
wine as I have in the courses."
"There
is a great need for observant, scientifically-minded clinician
physicians to join the ranks of therapists, PhDs, researchers
and Fellows of the ACRM. Rehabilitation physicians are underrepresented
in this Academy and there are multiple opportunities offered
by membership for learning more about the field, learning how
to carry out the strong research our field so desperately needs
and for career development in the committees and Board of the
ACRM." |
