Conrad Jobst Foundation Award Rules and Regulations
- Manuscripts
must not exceed the stated word limit (exclusive of headings, references,
legends for figures, tables, etc.).
- 5,000
words (Jobst and ACRM Essay Contest) is about 16 double-spaced
pages in Times New Roman
- 3000
words (Baruch award) is about 10 double-spaced pages in Times
New Roman
- An
essay is defined as an analytic or interpretative composition, which
may be dealing with its subject from a limited or personal point
of view. Essays are not reports of primary (original) research;
they go beyond literature reviews in that they argue for (or against)
a thesis, in which pertinent literature is enlisted selectively
and assessed critically to support one's point of view.
- It
is strongly suggested that authors follow the guidelines for authors
provided in the official journal of the ACRM, the Archives of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation (hardcopy January and July issues, or
online journal website) when writing and formatting their essays.
Essays should have a title and an abstract, and should at a minimum
have the following sections: Objective(s); Argument and supporting
literature; Conclusions; References
- The
manuscript must reflect original work and must not have been published
or submitted for publication.
- Essays
can have one author only.
- An
original and four copies of the manuscript must be submitted no
later than April 1 to the ACRM national office.
- An
individual may win a particular essay award only once.
- Manuscripts
will not be returned to authors. Therefore, it is important that
authors keep a copy for their own records.
- The
winners will be determined by the Awards Committee of the ACRM.
- Winners
will be notified during the month of June with public notice of
the award winners disseminated in conjunction with notification
of the ACRM annual meeting (final program), and through announcements
in Rehab Outlook and/or Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
- Winners
will receive their check, plaque and/or certificate at the annual
meeting, if they attend; otherwise, they will receive them in the
mail after the annual meeting.
- The
American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine reserves the right
to make no awards if, in the judgement of the Awards and Prizes
Committee, no contributions are worthy of the awards.
